I have been asking IOD to make sunflower transfers forever. Really.
So when they came out with the Painterly Florals transfer, I couldn’t contain my excitement! As soon as they came in I had to get busy using IOD Painterly Florals transfers. I used the roses on this bed.

The new transfers come in new packaging. Instead of being one large sheet of transfer in a tube, the new format is pages of transfer in a pad.
So after I used the roses on the bed, I still had pages of sunflowers and lavender for more projects!
I had purchased this picnic basket a few months ago thinking I’d put some transfers on the top. Today it hit me that the basket was begging for sunflowers!
I started by giving the top one light coat of Fusion’s Casement, a bright white. I knew I’d distress later so I didn’t worry about complete coverage.

I let the paint dry overnight so there wouldn’t be any moisture to interfere with the transfer.
In addition to sunflowers, I decided to use some lavender sprigs as well. I started by putting a few springs of lavender on first so they would be in the background.
The new transfer pads still include an applicator stick and I used that to rub the transfer in place.

Once the lavender was in place, I put sunflowers overlapping them and finished with a few sprigs of lavender in front of the sunflowers. There are extra leaves included in the pack and I used one to fill in some blank space.
After applying each transfer, I use the clear backing to rub and burnish the transfer in place to ensure it all sticks in place.

Once all the transfers were in place I gave the whole top a quick sand and then waxed with Fusion’s Espresso Wax to seal the transfer and add some age to the final look.

So this adorable project took less than an hour. I’ll need to get a picnic planned before winter arrives!

Isn’t this adorable? What will you do with the Painterly Florals?

Love the basket! I have the IOD Painterly Florals and will be using the sunflowers on the top of a small wooden table. I certainly will follow your ideas when I start my project.
I’ll bet that will be adorable!!
I have been wanting this transfer so bad. Just waiting on the perfect project. I love how you used them on this basket. Thank you for the inspiration.
So cute. I just used a different IOD transfer on top of a pi nic basket. It’s in my booth now.
Which one did you use?
